Good sources for clock mechanisms?

I'm trying to fix a clock belonging to my parents. The clock requires a pendulum clock movement with a 1" shaft, but while I can find that kind of mechanism fairly easily and inexpensively, I would also like it to have chimes, and finding the three attributes in one mechanism has been difficult. I have searched eBay and Amazon and found this one option, which looks exactly like the old mechanism, but will cost $84.36(Cdn). Does anyone have any suggestions as to sources, either Toronto-area or online, where I can get a chiming pendulum clock movement with a 1" shaft for less?

Help me find a new grocery list app.

The one I like (Copy Me That) has been discontinued for iphone! I want to create templates with items I buy from several different stores. Then, I want to be able to select items I need from those templates every week, and check them off as I buy them. Do you know another app like this?

Kaleidoscope of my dreams

Or did I dream it? I remember a long time ago having a kaleidoscope that didn't have all those little colored bits in it. It, however, looked the same as those other kinds, a tube with an eye-hole on one end and glass on the other. You looked through it and aimed it at anything, turned it, and it would transform whatever you were looking at into endless kaleidoscopic patterns. Does it have some special name? I've just spent too long doing numerous boolean searches to no avail. Help! My grandkids need this thing!

Best way to return this package?

I need to return a fairly large package via USPS. I'd like to avoid going to the post office (I'm in California, where COVID cases are surging). I think the box is too large to go in a dropoff box. It looks like USPS will let me request a pickup, though I'm a little worried about package theft if I have to leave the box out. Does anyone know if the postal carrier will scan the package when they pick it up, so that it's trackable right away? Are there any other ways to do this?

How to deal with a company that hasn't delivered and isn't responding

I ordered and paid for 4 speakers, meant to function together as a multiroom audio setup, from a Swedish speaker company 8 weeks ago. I received half of the order two weeks ago, but have no information about where the other half is. The company hasn't replied to my support ticket in 3 weeks, despite multiple followups. Where’s a body supposed to buy electronics these days?

Other than Best Buy or Amazon, that is. I just read that J&R Music World went out of business in 2014! I neeed a tabletop or bookshelf thing that will: 1. connect Bluetoothly with my phone’s playlist, 2. stream international radio stations, 3. play local FM radio, 4. AND play my music cds. Is there anything left in the world that will do these four things?

Do you know how to prevent wedgies?

I have a big butt relative to my other dimensions. If I follow the sizing charts correctly, I end up with all the wedgies. I do not like wedgies. How do I find underwear that fit me correctly? Looking for approaches to shopping, store recommendations, etc. [more inside]

I need a new TV, but I don't understand modern TVs. Advice sought.

My ~10 year old TV (which became a sort of member of the family during the pandemic) has finally died for good. I've been browsing for TVs but what's out there in 2020 makes me feel like Rip van Winkle. Can you give us some advice based on our needs? [more inside]

How do I figure out who shipped me a package from Target?

We just received an anonymous package in the mail, and we know that it came from one of three family members. The problem is that we can't ask any of the family members who actually sent the gift (long story). I was hoping that there'd be a packing slip in the box, but it was just the item itself with no other paperwork. Is there any way to figure out who sent the package? The label has an order number on it from Target, but that's as much as I've got.

A truly simple kids camera for a 4 year old?

I am thinking a kiddie camera for a four year old. I am looking for something with really simple design that just lets him point and shoot. The fewer functions, the better. Preferably with no built-in games. Ideally, it would be just a box with a single large button but I am OK with something more complicated as long as it won't frustrate a 4 year old. Does a thing like that exist? [more inside]

Another gift question: Niece Edition

I could really used some suggestions for what to get my niece for Christmas, whom I haven't seen in a year for obvious reasons. Basically all I have to go on: - she is 7 - she is apparently super, super into witches right now, possibly with a Wicca angle. -She is a smart cookie but doesn't seem hugely into reading. - I am in the UK and will need to receive this and then post it on before Christmas. Looking for a virtual gift card that can be signed by multiple parties

A coworker is having a baby, and I'd like to get him a gift (essentially a sum of money virtually delivered or in some kind of e-gift card), with a "card" that can also be personalized/signed by all of his coworkers. Can you recommend a good service that allows this function? I spent some time googling this and it gave me a headache that I could not resolve.
